In these sections of Exodus to compare and contrast we must first be able to address to certain questions. We must address to these patriarchal stories that fall into three categories. How are these stories to be interpreted historically, etiologic-ally, and theologically? Approaching these sections with an idea of it being different didn't go as planned. Differential is not the case when evaluating sections 19   & 20, similarities is more like it. There is a relation between the two.   Section 20 is basically Moses summarizing the law of principles. These law of principles are not necessarily admitting exception.

From the core of Christianity, Moses is mentioned more often in the New Testament than any other old testament figure. He is a symbol of God's law, as reinforced and expounded on in the teachings of Jesus. New Testament writers often compared Jesus' words and deeds with Moses to explain Jesus mission and that's exactly the theme of Exodus 19:1-8. The lord explains to him that he should obey by him and follow his rules and that he will be the symbol of his laws. Section 19:1-8 is basically the Lord giving Moses an objective. Moses was commanded by the Lord to to let the people know what they should do. A covenant kept between the Lord and Moses.The Lord was ready to allow Israel to enter into a covenant relationship with Him. God is going to bind Himself to certain promises that He would make to Israel. Israel was going to bind themselves to certain obligations to God. That is how a covenant, or contract, works. This covenant was inaugurated by word of mouth and then was written down.   A covenant that shall not be broken. Moses has been, and will continue to be, the figure who gives us most insight into Christ during this time in history. God has pronounced His covenant name and through His sovereign power has delivered His people from the bondage, slavery, and oppression of the Egyptians.
