A select set of strategic, linked objectives and measures that help you understand the key strategic drivers of performance, and then monitor your progress against these. Many people use the terms scorecard, dashboard and key performance indicators (KPIs) interchangeably. They usually mean a small collection of key measures that are regularly reviewed. However, how you create a balanced scorecard sets it apart from other approaches. The process of creating a balanced scorecard is almost as important as the performance management tool that is the end result. A balanced scorecard results from mapping your strategy and identifying how key objectives are linked to each other.
