“70% of middle school and high school students experience bullying in school,” (School Bullying).School bullying has become a growing epidemic throughout today’s society. There are multiple types of bullying that include physical, verbal, emotional, and homophobic. Bullying is happening in every age group but more directly in high schools. Boys and girls have different clarifications of bullying. Boys tend to do more physical bullying while girls are guilty for verbal bullying. Bullying tends to alter kids in short term and long term side effects later on in life. Some kids like Phoebe Prince couldn’t take the bullying and decided death was the better way. School Bullying has grown into a common problem and is now something that needs to be controlled.
Physical Bullying is considerably common in boys throughout high school. With my experience in high school I have seen physical bullying with multiple fights throughout the year. When people are physically bullied they are physical abused. Physical bullying can cause children to have substance abuse, depression, and suicidal ideation. Some studies have shown that children who were physically abused can also have post traumatic stress disorder. Physical Bullying is only one of the many types of bullying to affect kids today.
Many girls in high school bullying other girls but don’t think or know they do. Lots of people don’t understand that words are a form of bullying. Verbal bullying is any form of words that cause emotional distress. Teasing, laughing, tormenting, and making fun of are verbal bullying. Boys can also be victims, like in the case of Ben Vodden who was 11 and decided to take his life after kids were verbally bullying him at school. “Bullying has now become so common that 1 out of every 4 kids is being bullied,” (Bullying Statistics).
