Suicide Among Regular-Duty Military Personnel: A Retrospective Case-Control Study of Occupation-Specific Risk Factors for Workplace Suicide.
In this paper, researchers are trying to discover the most accurate cause and percentages, due to the suicide rate in the Military. Employers are supposed to input safe working environments to keep the employee’s health safe around the area. Decreased suicide rates in the military could be from the benefits they receive. This is because they have the “healthy worker effect”, support from the people they work for, and of course their families, medical services, and also social and occupational environments in the Military. On the other hand, there are the reasons for the increased rates also that we cannot forget about. This is because of access to weapons, access to marksmanship training, and possible self-selection of being around more rowdy individuals. Although, it was stated that the aggressiveness in the military is not any much more than it is in the real population. Though suicide is the second most cause of death in the United States and Russian militaries, 95 percent are due to armed forces, and the rest are from suffocation. Many were not allowed to carry the armed forces if they have had a recent history of wanted to commit danger to themselves. They also would have someone who followed them around to make sure they weren’t by themselves or doing anything stupid. It is assumed that the military service may influence suicide. This is rather because these young men are familiar with, and have to opportunity to use such weapons.
