Can Smoke Be Manufactured?
To most people smoke is what is given off or emitted when combustion is in progress, but is that the only way it can be produced? That is the basis and purpose of our science project. We are striving to discover if there is some sort of manufactured solution to producing smoke, what exactly smoke is, and also how could it benefit our lives.
So it has already been proven that smoke can be emitted by burning items, or by use of friction with wood, and also many other natural ways. We will be using a solution of potassium nitrate or Kno3 caramelized with glucose or sugar, hopefully we get the result that we are looking for.
Smoke can be defined as the collection of airborne solid and liquid particulates and gases emitted when a material undergoes combustion or pyrolysis, together with the quantity of air that is entrained or otherwise mixed into the mass. It is commonly an unwanted by-product of fires, but may also be used for pest control, communication, and defense.
As described in the previous paragraph, there are many ways we can use smoke to our benefit whether it could be used to drive harmful, poisonous pesticides out of your home, or could be used to signal for help from a far distance and to capture attention, and also it could be used for combat as a defense mechanism. Even though people say that most smoke is toxic and harmful, it actually has more pros than cons.
In conclusion, with this homemade apparatus we hope to produce smoke and prove that there are in fact other ways than natural ways to produce smoke and find out how we can use it to better our lives.
