Classic Airlines faces an uphill climb to get the company back to respectability. The airline has stumbled recently due to changes out of their control and organizational circumstances that must be re-evaluated. Classic needs to consider the internal and external pressures contributing to their current crisis. To do this, the company must implement the 9-step problem-solving model. In doing so Classic needs to look at their current situation, address the problem, describe goals, and identify risks. Furthermore, the organization will have to evaluate alternatives, make a decision about their solution and diagnose the results.
Situation
Classic Airlines is one of the largest airlines in the world with a combined 375 aircraft covering 240 territories and over 2,000 flights a day. The organization has 32,000 employees which led to Classic seeing a profit of 10 million. Part of the internal situation has seen the company increase costs while a decrease in travelers. This drop in transactions was no doubt instrumental in the company experiencing a 10% decrease in share price (Keller, 2006). The airline rewards program has slumped by 19% and their loyal customers have been reconsidering if the organization will make changes to turn the crisis around. With the shareholder decline and rising fuel costs customers do not feel the company is looking out for their best interest. “A business must be viewed as a customer satisfying-process, not a goods-producing process” (Keller, 2006). Classic Airlines needs to recognize that a decrease in customers has a direct relationship with the drop in sales and lack of solid customer service. The organization needs to pay attention to customer complaints or risk losing more and more customers.
