Cultural Sensitivity in Crisis Intervention
In Idaho Falls we have a couple different agencies that you are able to get involved in when it come to the crisis hotline intervention. The one that is the biggest in Idaho Falls is the Behavioral Health Center known by most people as (BHC). The Behavioral Health Center has many different programs depending on the crisis that is needed, this is for anyone 18 years or old and there is a younger program for children that are preschool to age 11. In order to volunteer for the BHC you need to be willing to help but it is preferred that you have an interest or are studying human services as it is staffed with   psychiatrists, nurses, counselors, social workers, case managers, psychiatric technicians and other competent mental health workers. In order to get started I would go to the local hospital and talk to the hiring manager, I would tell them I am a human services student that is major in human service for child and family welfare and would like to volunteer some time at the Behavior center.
I don’t feel that I would take advantage of this offer because I really don’t want to work in a center like this. I want to be a school counselor or stay in my current school and do special education with my current students, reason behind this is because I have way to much love for adults and children with disabilities and I have grown to love my kids and the other teachers at the school way too much.   I think that this volunteer service could be valuable to my   future as a human service professional because it would give me more knowledge of what really happens when things get really rough. I think I would also have a better understanding about the disabilities that some of my students might have, so I might be able to understand them a little easier, however I think the hardest thing for me would be watching them suffer while going through the recovery stage and that is what I really don’t want to see which is why I really don’t...
