In today's world, culture diversity is essential in nursing care.  People are not residing in their birth countries.  They live all over the world due to place of work, other families' members, or for personal preference.  It is important to understand and respect the cultures of others.  Madeleine Leininger dedicated her life to ensure the education and knowledge for nursing care and culture diversity is available (Leininger, 1997).  Leininger states that "caring is the essence of nursing and unique to nursing" (Leininger, 1987). Different cultures demonstrate diversity and universality in their everyday lives.  Understanding of cultural diversity is crucial for nursing to offer suitable care to individuals, families, and communities.   The theory's goal is to recognize ways to deliver culturally nursing care to patients of varied cultures (Leininger, 1997). An organizational barrier to this would be the misconception of what hospice really does. In Michigan when most people hear to word hospice they immediately thing of Dr. Jack. While serving his residency at the University of Michigan hospital in the 1950s, Dr. Kevorkian became fascinated by death and the act of dying. Dr. Kevorkian became a pathologist who assisted people suffering from acute medical conditions in ending their lives.
