Parents are the cause of Cyber Bullying

This issue is about how poor parenting is the cause of cyber bullying. Cyber Bullying is defined as when a child is tormented, humiliated, harassed, or targeted by another person using the Internet or any other related digital technologies in a repeated, hostile manner. This issue has many affects on children today, and the seriousness of the issues related to cyber bullying as well as its frequency has been on the rise. Currently there exists no solution to end cyber bullying because of the many different variables and potential causes that allow cyber bullying to take place today. Through research into cyber bullying most of the blame for its existence is pointed at the parents, because they allowed the bullying to continue and grow worse. This allows us to say that the problem of cyber bullying is caused by poor parenting.
There were 3 studies, in which a lot of effort and research put towards, for finding the root cause of cyber bullying, and many studies point to bad parenting. The first study was “Parents failing to protect Children from internet risk,” the second one was done by Dr. Susan Swearer, and the third study was “Effectiveness of Cyber Bullying Prevention strategies: a study on Students’ Perspectives.”   In the first study, which was done by the UK Safer Internet Center on February 7th, 2012, 500 parents, who all had children whose ages ranged from 5 to 16, were interviewed and asked many questions about cyber bullying and internet protection. Out of the five hundred parents, twenty four percent said that they took action by installing parental controls on the computer, limiting the amount of time their children would spend on the Internet and they also filtered and blocked software from specific sites. In that same study, sixty eight percent of the parents said that they had confidence that their children were safe online.
