As a new military spouse I found myself living through experiences, which I never could’ve imagined.   My husband didn’t join the military until later on in life, and my children were already school aged when the decision was made.   It was a voluntary decision of course, but one made out of true necessity.   My family was struggling financially and we felt that it was a way to provide our children with a more stable environment.   I laugh at this thought now, because there is nothing more unstable than being a military family member.   However that being said, I have come to realize what it takes to make the best of our situation.   We have learned ways to keep our family safe and as grounded as possible despite the circumstances.   It does take a community effort, and we do not take for granted the programs made available to us to make these transitions better.   You enter into a world of exclusivity and unity and the benefits speak for themselves.   I don’t have to worry about how I will pay for my light bill, but I do have other stressors that can cause the family strain and psychological and emotional problems.  
For military families, stress and strain are an everyday occurrence. Whether it is being married to a service member, experiencing a military move to a new location, raising children, experiencing a serious illness or death of a family member, and/or dealing with a deployment, life in the military can create an endless list of potential stress (National Military Family Association, 2012).   For our family the worst came when my husband had to deploy to Afghanistan and we had to relearn how to adapt to one other again.   I hope to have a broader understanding of what psychological...
