The art of when thousands of people pay money to gather around and watch a sporting event is truly amazing. There is a lot of money that goes into providing entertainment to the fans so that their experience will make them come back. Most fans come and root on their team because of tradition and the excitement it brings. However, with such a great amount of money being used for the inclusion of sports in the curriculum, many schools are facing financial problems that are causing several workers to lose their jobs. If push comes to shove, the presence of sports as a part of the American curriculum of high schools, colleges, and universities should cut the funding to address the more important issues first such as education, jobs, kids who need special attention, and balancing their budget.
Education should always come first when talking about anything relevant to a high school, college, or university. Without the proper funding from the state, a school cannot run efficiently enough to meet the standards kids need to become smarter. There are several ways that a school can fund their property and if money becomes an issue, education ought to be first. There are heaps of classes that need money in order to function and teach kids certain aspects they need to graduate. It is crazy to think more money is spent on sports when “shouldn’t the district be soliciting donations to fund teaching positions and the restoration of music and art programs, which provide a broader benefit?” (Smith). To answer this question, yes, the district should be more concerned about funding for these teaching positions and programs. Without teachers to adequately teach kids important lessons, how is the generation of kids going to learn? How are these kids going to be successful when all the money is being spent on sports? These factors are way more important than an authentic jersey, custom cleats, or a new locker-room.
