The Events industry is very popular and extensive in our days. Bowdin (2006 p.4) states, “since the dawn of times, human beings have found ways to mark important events in their lives. Today, events are central to our culture as perhaps never before.” The main purpose of this essay is to define the nature of the events industry, to identify recent event examples, to categorise them in line with typology (Local, Major, Hallmark and Mega), classification (Leisure, Cultural, Personal and Organisational), sector of the industry (Public, Private and Voluntary) and to discuss the importance of stakeholders in events production.
According to Raj (2009), “Events and festivals are well documented in historical period before the fall of the Western Roman Empire.” This statement shows that the origins of the event industry have been founded long time before our century, and it is still plays huge role in people life. Events make city much more attractive for tourists and they give a good choice for residents to spend their free time. There are lots of different events, such as birthday parties, private dinners, big summer festivals, live rock concerts, art exhibitions, business conventions, meeting and so on. Each of them is very special and can be categorised by size, classification, and the sector of the industry.
