In today‚Äôs society most people rely greatly on the internet and other electronic devices, making it possible for you to connect to Facebook no matter where you might be, whether at school or work. It has been recorded that more than 350 million active users currently access Facebook through their phones.(http://www.facebook.com/press/info.php?statistics) Many younger adults are often absorbed into the life of relying on appliances causing them to be removed from reality. Some people like the comfort of not having to talk face to face with another person, possibly of the opposite sex or somebody who they are seeking to have relations with. In other words it is possible that the internet itself is taking over humankind in a sense.  
Facebook and other social networks have become very distracting to college and high school students, polls indicate that 80 percent of students aged from 11-18 are social networking in place of doing homework.(http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/news-details.php?nid=131772) There have been several studies done at Ohio State University, there Aryn Karpinski, co-author of the study and a doctoral student in education at OSU, surveyed 219 Ohio State students, and 148 were said to have an account with the popular social networking website. Among that 148, 65% said they used their accounts one or more time per day. The students did not believe that these social networks were distracting them from their school work, but later on researchers had found out that students were only studying about 1 to 5 hours a week, while non Facebook users were studying at least 11- 15 hours per week.(http://voices.washingtonpost.com/checkup/2009/04/does_facebook_lead_to_bad_grad.html)
