Failed Attempts For Redemption
In The Kite Runner Amir and Baba both sought out for the redemption of the sins they have committed. Only one of them truly finds the redemption and Baba is not the one. “…is what true redemption is…when guilt leads to good” (Hosseini   ) Baba had an idea in his head that told him to be the best at everything and to fool people from the truth. Even if it meant to go against his own beliefs and word. He showed the image of a person that everyone wanted to see. Baba also takes his guilt out on his known son, Amir, just so he feels as if he is doing the right thing. Baba believed he did everything he possibly could to be at ease with his sin, until it got thrown in his face and legend. “…In the end, the world always wins. That’s just the way of things.”(Hosseini 99)
Baba sought the easy way out, which was to do and to give for everyone else but the ones that needed it most.”…feeding the poor, giving money to friends in need, it was all a way of redeeming himself.”(Hosseini 13) Baba played himself out to be the biggest hearted and trust-worthy person around, even though he was the complete opposite. Baba even built an orphanage with his own wealth. Anytime Baba’s friends were in need, he was there for them. That is why everyone grew to respect him, or just the image he had shown. Part of the image Baba put on was a preacher. He preached of what the one and only sin there was to commit. Baba once said “There is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sins is a variation of theft…when you kill a man, you steal his life. You steal a wife’s right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone’s right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness.” (Hosseini 18) He preached to Amir who was blinded to the fact that it was Baba’s sin in a nutshell.
