1. What real influence do you feel, as a teacher, can have on youth?
A teacher’s job is to not only to teach their students in the classroom, but also to prepare them for what has yet to come, for the future. As a teacher you open the minds of your students and get them to experience new and exciting things that help them grow as a person. If a child has a negative experience in the beginning years of their education, then they will fear it for eternity, so it’s how a teacher attracts their students from the start and their influence on them that sets them up for life. Children need someone to look up to, someone to confide in and express their feelings without the feeling that they are being judged. In order to be a teacher it is not always about the courses one takes in college, and how many degrees one may have, it is about how you can relate to your students. For me personally, I want to pass on to my students that it is not always how smart you are and how well you do on tests, but your ability to learn and continue to learn once your education is completed. To be able to express the importance of equality among all, and how to build relationships throughout your life is not something that can be taught within a textbook but can be expressed by your teaching. It is teaching in that sense that influences a child to proceed with an education and the drive to succeed.
