Q1A: Discuss the distinctive vision of America that Jefferson and his followers championed in economy, education, culture, and politics. Then analyze these four areas during the Jefferson era to determine whether this vision translated into reality. How did Jeffersonian policies conflict with the vision of Handsome Lake of the Senecas?

A1A: When Thomas Jefferson took office in 1801, the state of the nation was not fully to the liking of himself and his followers. Jefferson wanted a government that did not have all the power. He believed the states should rule their own destiny. After election, Jefferson planed to mold the country in a way he saw fit and a way that would set the country up for success in the future.
One way this was planned was through education. Jefferson believed all white men should have the chance to receive a free education. Though many of the states voiced support for the program, few would actually a free system. Many privatized the education system, which kept the common child fro receiving an education. Jefferson and his followers also placed a new found importance on females’ education. Republicans believed that a child could not be raised properly if the mother was uneducated. Though the plan was increased public education, little was to be found.
What was rich in the new republic was culture and individuals trying to leave their name in American literary history. Individuals such as Noah Webster set and example that America was going to do it their way. They would do away with the teachings of the British, make there own way and stand out.
How Webster did this was simplifying the English language. He would Americanize it and in the process create the best selling book, besides the bible, ever. He would create the new standard for American to use...
