HR department retention
Employee retention is one of the challenges face by many business organisations today. I will explain how HR activities support the organisations strategy and how HR professionals support line managers and their staff.
As organisations across the world recover from the recent economic downturn, Staff Retention is re-appearing as one of the top priorities with organisations reporting of being concerned about Staff Retention. Companies aren't limiting their cost-cutting methods solely to reducing positions. Some businesses are turning to alternative techniques, such as pay freezes, reduce bonuses, or forced vacations. While layoffs are usually the most visible action, companies are finding a multitude of ways by which to cut costs and, in some cases, delaying, reducing or eliminating the need to make permanent job cuts.
HR role is very important in implementing and supporting organisation’s strategy throughout the business. It is the HR department that is capable to contribute as it has necessary skills and resources. Managers and HR professionals have the important job of organizing people so that they can effectively perform these activities. This requires viewing people as human assets, not costs to the organization.
First at all, it is responsible for recruitment and selection - the ability to attract and select human resource with right knowledge, skills and attitude, identify the right people for the job, advise on legal framework. This way HR department ensures productivity, quality and service have a positive contribution necessary for the success.
Secondly, HR adds value to the organisation identifying, directing and controlling the process of training and development for the employees.
