Jim felt very happy that morning; there was no particular reason for that happiness apart from the fact that he was just drafted in by the head coach for the college basketball team. He had all the attributes to make it big in basketball; he stood 6ft 10in tall, was built like a truck and was surprisingly athletic for someone with such a huge frame. He had worked really hard to get into the team, the road was not easy, the fact that he was new to the college didn’t make things any easier, but still as soon as one saw a glimpse of him on the court they knew in their hearts that this boy was destined to become the next big thing in college basketball, and may be go on and rub shoulders with the big boys in the NBA(National Basketball Association).
He barged through the door and called for his mother, she was the only person in front of whom he used to lose his tough exterior and mellow down to being a kid, he loved her, he respected her, she meant the world to him, after all she was the only one that he had, when he had no one else, Jim’s dad left his mother when Jim was still inside her. Just before you start forming a very grey character sketch of Jim’s dad, let me clarify, he was a beautiful soul, he was a great scholar, a wonderful athlete, a charming lover and a devoted husband, but there were some urgent vacancies for people with all these attributes up there in heaven, so he was called up urgently, but he had passed on all his goodness to Jim through Jim’s mother, she used to tell him about his dad when Jim was young. Jim loved his dad, but always felt a void when he used to see the dads of other boys accompany them to the games, he always wished if his dad could come to at least one game of his, such was his desire to have his dad back that he had shattered all high-school scoring records.
