Cultural Context
Texts often reflect socio context. What is socio context? Socio context is a snapshot from the time, place or country that it came from which describes its cultural context. A correct definition is:  ‘refers to the immediate physical and social setting in which people lived or in which something happened or developed.’ When reading the text we get a picture in our mind of the type of culture that they had back in the time. This helps us learn more about the culture of the people of the time and understand how they lived and thought. The books I have looked at are Chinese Cinderella, Percy Jackson series, Heroes of Olympus series, and Boy. I chose Chinese Cinderella because it should have a lot of Chinese culture, I chose Percy Jackson because of the culture of the Ancient Greeks, I chose the Heroes of Olympus series because there is some Ancient Greek and Roman culture and I chose Boy because it is an autobiography of a child in the 20th Century. I have chosen Chinese Cinderella and the Heroes of Olympus series because I think I could get more information out of them and they were interesting books to read. The movies I have looked at are the ‘Boy in Striped Pyjamas’ and ‘War Horse.’ I chose ‘War Horse’ because of its link to World War 1.

Heroes of Olympus
The Heroes of Olympus is a fiction novel but it refers to what it was like back in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. The Greeks strongly believed in there Gods and worshipping and thanking them was part of there culture. In this book it also has a bit of what it was like when the Romans took over Athens and the rest of Greece. In the 3rd book of the series it talks about when the Romans took over Athens. It also includes many legend or myths of the Gods of Greece and Rome and how they had children called Demigods.
In 63 B.C was when Rome to Athens. In this book it explains that as they raided Athens the famous statue of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and battle strategy and...
