Everyone in the world has a dream, some dreams are able to be fulfilled and others are not.   In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck uses pain, suffering, and loneliness to show how people use dreams to get through hard times.   Dreams can seem ridiculous to people at certain moments in time, but when people go through things, all they can do is hope and think about the best.
A short stature man, George Milton, has a dream of buying land and thriving off it.   George must take care of a mentally challenged friend, Lennie. Lennie loves to hear the story of what their land will be like, “We’d have a little house an' a room to ourself.   Little fat iron stove, an' in the winter we'd keep a fire goin' in it" (Steinbeck 58).   George's dreams hinder his life daily because he knows in order to fulfill them he must work hard and earn his money.   He thinks his dreams will never come true until he met Candy who had the same dream as him.   Candy is willing to help George buy the land because of the amount of time he has worked and saved.   Candy and George form a close bond; every time they got together they'd talk about the ranch they are going to have.   George's dream not only kept him on his feet, but also influenced others to strive for their dreams.
Lennie Small is a mentally challenged, large man who depends on George for everything.   On the land George and him plan to get, he hopes to tend to the rabbits.   "The rabbits we're gonna get, and I get to tend 'em, cut grass an' give 'em water, an' like that" (69).   Lennie acts his best and does everything the way George tells him to so he can care for the rabbits.   In the novella, Lennie is aware of his strength but does not realize when he uses it to much.   He has killed mice countless times, a puppy once, and even a human.   Lennie's dream is ruined when he kills Curley's wife, he knows he had done something wrong so he ran to the brush like George had told him to do if he ever got into any trouble.   George does not want Curley...
