Personal Ethics Essay

In our everyday life ethics is a large part of it. One’s ethics perspective can affect one’s personal and professional life. Ethics and morals are synonymous to each other and make the distinction between what is an acceptable or an unacceptable behavior in our personal and our professional life. Ethics and morals are learned behaviors and will flourish in any setting rather it be personal or professional.
Ethics are values or morals instilled into individuals by one’s parents, culture, and community. Ethics is defined as the examination and assessment of human behavior in accordance of moral principles that is based on ideas of what is right and wrong. The legal dictionary defines ethics as the principles of behavior that governs one’s personal life and as well professional life.
According to the ethical Lens Inventory, my personal preferred lens is the rights and responsibility lens which means that I use reasoning skills in order to determine my duties and that there are rules that each person must follow. My blind spot is the belief that motive justifies method. My core values are Autonomy and rationality and my classic value is temperance. My strengths are self-knowledge in which I am concerned with figuring out my duties, and I do know myself, what I am doing and why. I believe in keeping my word. If I say I will do something I follow through. I am a risky person because I can be bossy if need be.
In order to successful in one’s personal life as well as professional life one should follow these basic codes of ethics: be honest, have integrity, be responsible, be courteous, be respectful, be harmonious, and by all means do change yourself to please others. If these basic ethics codes are followed then one will be successful in one’s personal and professional life.
