This piece is germane to the commission’s terms of reference as its cardinal objective is to serve as a memorandum and resource material in our efforts to find a lasting solution to such a sad event in this country. There is almost nothing left to be said about the condemnable, barbaric and senseless killings of scores of innocent Nigerians at the ethno-religious crisis camouflaged as a protest against alleged manipulation of election of a Council Chairman for the Jos North Local Government of Plateau State.
Like a bull in a China shop, it is mournful, melancholic and leaves a sour taste in the mouth that the murderers went berserk by sending many innocent souls into untimely graves. Among the victims were some young Nigerians whose only ‘offence’ was their acceptance of official posting by a federal authority to serve their fatherland outside their States of origin, after University training! It is an irony that the wasted Youth Corps members were not on the payroll either as permanent or ad hoc staff of the State Indefpendent Electoral Commission neither were they candidate nor canvassers in the controversial elections in Jos, Plateau State. Therefore, why the charlatans made such innocent souls their targets of attack continue to beat one’s imagination!  
It is also surprising that the gangsters were so ‘meticulous’ that none of the local leaders of the contending parties were attacked neither was venom or vituperations poured on any party secretariats in the vicinity! This, by logical deduction, proves beyond reasonable doubt that the public was cajoled by dressing the civil disturbance in a political garment, but the undertone is ethnic animosity. Patriotic Nigerians cannot understand why the sins of ‘do-or-die’ politics should be visited on youth corps members or any other Nigerian for that matter resident in any part of the federation if indeed...
