On a rare occasion my wife and I will find the opportunity to get away from the daily routine of work, school, and raising three children. This occasion came to us just recently by way of a surprise when we attended the Food and Wine Festival in downtown Waco, TX on October 6th 2012. There was a silent auction with many wonderful items. The one that caught my eye was for a one night stay with breakfast at the local Marriot Courtyard Hotel in down town Waco, TX. To my surprise, I won the bid. It couldn’t have come at a more convenient time as my wife and I were getting ready to celebrate our eighth wedding anniversary together. We decided to cash in on the free night’s stay that very evening. I traveled a lot growing up, living up and down the east coast while working in my early twenties. I stayed in hotels around the world during my twenty-year hitch in the US Navy. As a result, I have a lot of experience with the hotel industry. My experience with Marriot hotels has always been very good. In the following paragraphs I will review my one night stay at the Marriot Courtyard Hotel in Waco TX. The criteria I’ve selected are hospitality, decor, cleanliness, accommodations, food service and customer service.
I began by calling ahead to make a reservation and was greeted by a professional sounding gentleman by the name of Kevin. I told Kevin about my free night’s stay and that I was also celebrating my eighth wedding anniversary with my wife. Kevin congratulated me. We engaged in short but friendly conversation, and without my asking, he offered a free upgrade to the already free room to help with our celebration. Now that’s hospitality! My wife and I couldn’t wait to get there.
