Below is an essay on "Rhetoric" from Anti Essays, your source for research papers, essays, and term paper examples.

1. The topic in Why Cant More People Escape Poverty is that people need to learn how to properly include willpower and self control into their decision making skills.

  2. The authors position in the essay is supporting and agreeing to the fact that people should indeed work on their decision making and strenthen their willpower skills.

  3. The author stated on page 128 that “we need to rethink our approaches to poverty reduction” meaning he does not necessarily support reducing poverty and that the poor should work towards fixing the issue themselves. He also discussed that if the poor decided to take chances like purchasing a dishwasher and/or a washing machine they would have more time to spend with their families which is an example of strong decision making skills.

  4. There were no points made by the author that disagreed with the topic of the article. All of the points were supportive of the given subject.

  5.   Authors argument:

      * agrees that people need to use the “tradeoff” method
      * agrees that restrictions should be place on the access of money
      * agrees that self control plays a large role in poverty
      * agrees that money has a great effect on peoples willpower to do certain thing.
  6. Personally I feel as though money does play a large role in the way everyone lives their daily lives. Rich people don’t have to experience trade-offs or even having willpower to do something because they have enough money to do whatever it is that they want.
  7. Some Rhetorical Strategies used in the essay were description as well as process.
