Dear Mom and Dad,
For the past 18 years I grew up under your care. You’ve been my guidance and support in life. You have always been there for me, giving me advice and great insight about life. You’ve guided and loved me throughout my life. All your life you’ve made sacrifices for me to have a good life of my own. I want to say that I really appreciate everything you did and continue for me. I am really grateful to have you guys as my parents. I know that without listening to you, I wouldn't be able to grow up and get into prestigious colleges.
However, I would like you to listen to my opinions about picking my major in college. As a freshman I get to choose which pre-requisite classes I want to take. I’m interested in studying to become a pharmacist. Therefore, I would like you to know that as a pharmacy major I will be taking pre-med classes as you recommended. But I won’t become a doctor. I really value your opinion about making decisions for my future. I know that you want me to become a doctor so that I can earn a lot of money. I can't deny the fact that being a medical doctor is a good career but it takes a lot of time; you have to be in school for more than ten years. On the other hand pharmacy only takes at maximum eight years to finish. I will also be able to earn a decent salary as a pharmacist, and most importantly it’s what I’m most interested in. As you all and I both want the best for my future, I would like you to consider my own decision of majoring in biochemistry to become a pharmacist.
Finally, I want to say that I'm very concerned about my future. When I made my decision, I did all the research and considered carefully all available options. I would like you to consider my decisions as well. I will work and study hard to the best of my ability so that I will not upset you or myself. I will be very happy if I can receive support from you.
