A Career in Secondary Education in Mathematics
“Teachers provide the tools and the environment for their students to develop into responsible adults” (www.bls.gov “Teachers” section 2). Becoming a secondary mathematics teacher is not a simple task, but takes years of study, patience, and discipline. Three aspects of which are needed, when the student becomes the teacher. Teachers are a major role in fostering the intellectual and social development of their students during their formative years, which helps in determining the future of those students (www.bls.gov   “Teachers” sec. 2).

In becoming a secondary mathematics teacher, they are required to first become the student of one actually several, during this time it is a good idea to attentively learn not only what they teach, but how the teach it, jot down characteristics that you think will be useful later when you become a teacher. Teachers are required to take a specially designed course for teachers as well as prescribed professional education course, philosophy of education, psychology of learning and teaching methods (www.bls.gov “Teachers” sec. 2). Also required to excel in the subjects they wish to teach, in this case, all mathematics courses. After two years of college they are required to be in an approved teacher training program. Public school mathematics teachers are required to be licensed. Although to receive a license by the state board of education as a licensure advisory committee they are required to have one year of supervised practice teaching mathematics, but today because of the advancements in technology and the different ways they can utilize technology in helping them teach, teachers are required to take classes about computer use and other technologies to maintain accreditation (www.bls.gov “Teachers” sec. 2).
