Many individuals believe the misconception that a hero is an individual who wears tights and a cape and soars through big cities defeating evil with powers gained from a gene that got horribly mutated in some mad scientist experiment. The true definition of a hero or heroine is an individual of exceptional courage and strength, a leader. A hero/ heroine is defined through an individual like Malala Yousafzai, a fifteen year old Pakistani girl who in her short years has accomplished far beyond what others have dreamed. As a young girl growing up in a country in which women and young girls do not share the same rights as men and young boys Yousafzai fights for equality between the two genders. Because of her tremendous courage in fighting for young girls to have the right to go to school and the recognition she has gained through her campaign she has also faced malice from those who oppose her. Though faced with acts of hatred she has not given up on her dream but rather, she has grown.

Malala’s Story
At the beginning of 2009, Yousafzai is given the opportunity to write for BBC Urdu when her father, was asked by a BBC reporter out of Pakistan, if any women at his school would write about life under the Taliban. At the time the Talibans militants were seizing Swat Valley, the area in which she lived.   While the Talibans remained there they banned television, music, girls’ education, and women from shopping. On the 3rd of January 2009 Yousafzai’s first entry was posted to the BBC Urdu blog. In order to protect herself from being caught, Yousafzai would hand-write her entries and pass them on to reporters who would can scan and e-mail them. In her first blog entry she speaks about the decrease in number of students after the Talibans proclamation against girls attending school. “Only 11 pupils attended the class out of 27.
