For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to make a difference in the lives around me. Growing up with a younger brother I became a very nurturing child. I was the older sister and around the first grade I had an amazing person come into my life who showed me exactly what I wanted to do when I grew up. Corrie Archer, my first grade teacher, showed me how I could put my mothering personality to great use in my career.
Many years had gone by, and still to this day I could recall everything that happened within my first grade year. When I made the call to Mrs. Archer my biggest fear was that she wouldn’t remember who I was. The first time I called, I had to leave a message on her cell phone because she was in a meeting, but when she called back I was in classes. So finally the moment I was able to get away from classes I immediately returned her call, and to my surprise she still remembered who I was. We were able to set up an interview, and were both very excited about it. The moment I walked into that old first grade room many memories flooded my memory, but the biggest was that middle-aged women sitting behind her decorated desk playing on the computer. She saw me and warmly greeted me with a friendly hello.
As I walked over to her desk I took a good look around the room, I noticed nothing had changed besides the papers and art work on the wall. The bulletin board was brightly decorated in fall colors with turkeys and pilgrims. There was child like drawings all over the walls, and on the black board were notes from that day’s lesson. Mrs. Archer stood as she greeted me. She stood a little taller than me at 5’ 5”, and was the picture of a first grade teacher. She was short and a little chubby but in a cute teacher way. She had dirty blonde hair pulled half way up, and very little make up on. The laugh lines on her face showed that she has had many great, happy years in her career. Her skin was radiantly glowing and the soft smile on her face let me know...
