“Help me out” “Talk to me, nurse”: A critical care experience of therapeutic relationship in war victim (A reflective on practice)

Abstract: The purpose of this study to describe my own experience of the recipient’s relationship in a hospital which specialised just for war victims. This individual experience explains different aspects of approach and critical assessment to this exceptional patient who illustrated many complications and perceived therapeutic relationship against backdrop of challenges, including mental illness, acute physical needs with severe and multi-disabilities. It is important to achieve a greater understanding of emotional perception which is required to create therapeutic nurse- patient relationships in the concept of a reflection on practice. So that I could express my experience in various figured themes, titled using participant’s own words” know me as a person” and” get the ability to sort out my problems”. Also therapeutic relationship for this patient with complexity of needs requires in-depth personal knowledge which is gained only with time, understanding and skill. Knowing the whole person like my patient was a key for me who interested in enhancing the therapeutic potential of relationships. Participating in the therapeutic nurse-patient relationships can impose emotional pain on nurses in the context. Therefore, this leads to enhancement of the emotional intelligence which is necessary to develop and preserve these relationships. In turn, this ameliorates the care of critically ill patients and their family (Elizabeth O’Connell, 2008)....
